ABOUT ASSAM UNIVERSITY

Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 (Act. No. XIII). It was established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. Assam University is accredited by NAAC with B Grade with a CGPA of 2.85 in 4-point scale. The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape with Bhuban and Barail ranges of hills at the backdrop and picturesque tea gardens of south Assam. The campus in an area of 600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides an ideal environment for academic pursuit. Drawing its 250 plus faculty from many disciplines, from all over the country, the university sustains a multidisciplinary approach to higher education. The University has nine Schools on major disciplines. They are Physical Sciences, Management Studies, Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Information Sciences. There are 29 Departments under these nine Schools.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Department started functioning in July 1997 and offers a five-year integrated course leading to the Degree of M.Sc. in Computer Science. The department also offers Ph.D. Programme. The department is working on the R&D project funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India of an amount of Rs. 23.1 lakhs. Till date eight batches of students have passed out from the department. They are well-placed in different parts of the World with reputed companies like Infosys, IBM, TCS, ORACLE, HCL, Cognizant, Wipro and many others including educational and research institutions.
