Education:
I am working in the Department of Physics, Assam University since 1997. I was born in 23 July 1962,
in Silchar and worked at various places before joining Assam University here.
I obtained my B. Sc from G C College Silchar, in 1981 and then I did my M Sc. from IIT Kharagpur,
India in 1984. I worked in Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabd, India for my Ph. D and got
my degree in 1990 in the filed of Astrophysics.
The thesis work was on ‘ Photopolarimetric studies of comet Halley and some other objects'.
My areas of Research Interests are :
- Experimental:
Optical photometric and polarimetric astronomical observation and related instrumentation – Image processing
- astronomical data analysis- laboratory light scattering experiment.
- Theoritical:
Comets- Solar system studies - Interstellar medium - Star formation-theory of polarimetry.
Following are the Visiting positions / Membership of Societies that I have availed so far :
- DLR (German Aerospace Center) Fellowship: Guest scientist at Institute of Planetary Research,
DLR, Berlin. (April-June 2005).
- Visiting Scientist : JSPS (Japan ) Fellowship under DST-JSPS co-op. science prog., 2000, 01, 03, 04, 05, 06,
07,08 (an ongoing collaboration with Planetary Science Group, Kobe University,Japan on solar system studies).
- Visiting Associate at Inter Univ. Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune since 1997.
- Member of Science Working group on 'Interstellar Dust Studies'of TAUVEX (an Indo- Israel Ultraviolet Imaging
Experiment that will be launched into a geostationary orbit as part of ISRO's GSAT-4 mission).
- Member'Multi wavelength working group'of ASTROSAT(India's first astronomy satellite, to be launched by ISRO).
